How can I fix an office chair that is now too low and won't "pump" up higher?

I go to nursing school (at age 56 of all things!) And have an office chair that I paid a lot to return in 2000. Yes, I know that is old and needs to be replaced, but simply can not afford to do so. The height to be controlled, but now it is up to the point that will rise and the highest. E 'killling my shoulders to do homework on my desk, because now the office is too high, because the chair is too low. Sense, right? E 'possible to fix the chair so it will be higher? I also thought a platform to raise all of them in the chair, but it is simply impossible to do. Does anyone have a cure, right? And thanks for your help! have tried and tried to find ways to respond to your answers. not sure what it is or not,,,, but. 'M in Texas. too far for the swap, but it was a great idea! I need to consider what the pillow. Pillows or phone books would be my suggestion. Well, I have the opposite problem. Mine is too high and can not lose. Tell you what, let's change you live near NC? You should be able to exercise raise him up again and drill a hole through the mail and put a needle there. hope that helps to loss of compression to be replaced because of poor record when it starts to run.
